Ribbon Cutting for Katie's Cup Coffeebar
Katie's Cup coffeebar and bookstore is now open in MidTown at 502 Seventh Street, across from AMCORE bank. The grand opening is Wednesday, January 28 at 10:30 a.m. Mayor Larry Morrissey and Bishop Gary M. Wollersheim (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America Northern Illinois Synod) will cut the ribbon, assisted by Einar Forsman, Rockford Chamber President and CEO.
Serving a variety of fair-trade coffee, tea and pastries, Katie's Cup offers free WiFi and a cozy atmosphere for enjoying coffee, conversation and community. The coffeebar and bookstore is open every day: Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. and weekends from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. A variety of general interest and faith-based books are available, both new and recycled. Book and discussion groups are already scheduled, and more are welcome. Meeting space accommodating 60 people is available in an adjoining presentation room. Katie's Cup is located in the historic, completely restored Lantow Lofts building, featuring geothermal heat and solar preheated water. For more information, visit www.lantowlofts.com or call 815-964-8280, ext. 10.
Katie's Cup is a joint venture of ZION Development and Rockford Area Lutheran Ministries (RALM) and is named for Martin Luther's wife, Katharina von Bora Luther. She was a strong, independent woman well-known for her hospitality. A grand opening party will be held Thursday, Jan. 29 in honor of Katie's 510th birthday, with cake served all day.
RALM brings congregations together in partnership to make Christ known in the community through creative ministries of witness and service. This collaborative organization of area Evangelical Lutheran Church in America congregations in the greater Rockford area provides a central information site, community outreach coordination, and quality programs for our community's children, teens, and adults -- programs difficult for any single church to run alone.
